Buildings at Risk Right Now
Every demolition we do not fight is a piece of Central Texas history erased permanently.
Every demolition we do not fight is a piece of Central Texas history erased permanently. Our Demolition Schedules page tracks mid-century modern buildings across Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, San Angelo, College Station, and Waco that face active demolition threats.
How we track demolition threats. We monitor public records including demolition permits filed with city building departments, university facilities master plans, redevelopment proposals before planning commissions, and real estate listings that market properties as "teardowns" or "redevelopment opportunities." We also rely heavily on community reports — often, the first person to notice a threat is a neighbor who sees a demolition notice posted on a fence.
Report a building at risk. If you know of a mid-century modern building facing demolition or substantial alteration, contact us immediately. Include the address, any documentation of the threat, and your assessment of the building's significance. Speed matters — demolition timelines can be as short as 30 days from permit issuance.
What advocacy looks like. When we confirm a credible demolition threat to a significant building, we take action: notifying the Docomomo US network, contacting city historic preservation officers, submitting public comments to planning commissions, reaching out to property owners to discuss alternatives, mobilizing community members to attend public hearings, and documenting the building thoroughly as a last-resort preservation measure.
