Explore at Your Own Pace
No schedule. No group. Just you, a map, and some of the best mid-century architecture in Texas.
Our self-guided tours are curated routes through neighborhoods and districts with significant concentrations of modernist buildings. Each tour includes a downloadable map, building-by-building descriptions with architectural context, and historical notes that explain what you are seeing and why it matters.
How they work. Download the tour materials from our website, load the map on your phone, and go. Walking tours cover compact neighborhoods. Driving tours connect buildings spread across a wider area. Each building entry tells you what to look for: roof forms, material choices, window patterns, and site relationships.
Respect the buildings and their occupants. Self-guided tours are exterior-only experiences. Many buildings are private residences or active businesses. View and photograph from the public right-of-way, keep noise down in residential areas, and do not enter private property.
New routes added regularly. Our tour development committee continually researches and publishes new self-guided routes. If you know of a neighborhood with a concentration of mid-century buildings that deserves a tour, let us know.
