Restored mid-century modern building exterior showing successful grant-funded preservation in Texas

Funding Preservation Work

Grant funding exists for those who know where to look. We help connect preservation projects to available resources.

Preservation costs money, but grant funding exists for those who know where to look. Federal, state, and private grant programs fund building documentation, restoration, adaptive reuse studies, and community education related to historic architecture — including mid-century modern buildings.

Texas Historical Commission programs. The THC administers several grant and incentive programs relevant to mid-century modern preservation, including the Texas Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program for income-producing properties, the Certified Local Government grant program, and the Texas Preservation Trust Fund.

Federal programs. The National Park Service's Historic Preservation Fund distributes grants through State Historic Preservation Offices. The Save America's Treasures program funds preservation of nationally significant structures.

Private foundations and nonprofits. Organizations including the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Docomomo US Modernism in America fund, and various Texas-based foundations offer grants and technical assistance for preservation projects.
